Why Peacock Inspires Designers? The Peafowl

I was hiking through the jungles along with other hikers in Jaipur a few days ago. This area is isolated and not many choose to hike around in this area. The bushes and cactus make it very tough to navigate through this section.  While traversing through the jungle there was a sudden flutter caused by a peahen taking off from a nearby bush. She flew off upon hearing our footsteps. We too were startled with the peahen taking off suddenly. Upon getting closer, we discovered the reason for her hiding behind the bush.

The jungles around Jaipur is a natural breeding ground of the peacock. Being a national bird of India, the peacock is protected under the Wildlife Act. While today we might require such acts to protect this species, for centuries peacock has continued to inspire the poets, weavers, and singers in India.

In a way, the peacock has been placed much higher than other birds because it denotes celebrations. The association of its feather with Lord Krishna is well established. The peacock motifs in paintings, frescoes and garments are quite common. One of the gates in Jaipur City Palace has peacock as a dominant motif. It is called the peacock gate. Here is a picture.

This gate is very popular on Instagram and is considered as one of the yop Insta-worthy places in Jaipur.

In the last few years, the jewelry with peacock motif designed and manufactured in Jaipur has become a big rage. Rajasthan is synonymous with peacocks as it is found across the state.

It’s a sheer joy to witness this bird in its natural habitat!

  1. An interesting discussion is price comment. I believe that it is best to write extra on this matter, it won’t be a taboo subject however generally persons are not enough to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers
