When you blend the architecture of a Rajasthani Haveli with Mughal motifs and Dutch design sensibilities, the result is a beautiful creation. Bar Palladio at Narain Niwas Palace Hotel in Jaipur is one such outcome.
Bar Palladio is like an exotic dream! A mystic place. It’s a fusion of design and play of colors; turquoise and white color dominate the walls. The lighting creates a magic. Hard to imagine? Here is a picture for you to have a look!
The black and white marble checkered floor is an English influence. The lamps on the ceiling convey the Mughal connection. When you settle on a seat and the peacock blue walls cast a spell on you; a thought flashes in your mind. Maybe it has a Moroccan influence? It is difficult to acertain the dominant design element. The interiors of Bar Palladio are sure to cast a spell on you!
What is evident is the fact that these walls are influenced by the old design we have seen many times in Jaipur. Can you recall the famous Gates of Jaipur? The Sanganeri Gate, Ajmeri Gate, New Gate, Surajpol Gate? Here’s a picture for your reference.
The designer of Bar Palladio replicated the floral motif on peacock blue walls instead of terracotta pink that we see in the old city area of Jaipur. These floral motifs are synonymous with Jaipur hand block printed fabrics. The blue on the walls is inspired by the peacocks found of the region. I cannot say for sure but the old architecture resembles a Baithak that used to be an order of the old days of royalty. So the layout is essentially a Rajput architecture.
Bar Palladio owner is an Italian, Ms. Barbara Miolini, who shifted to Jaipur many years ago to start a textile business. The interior has been designed by a Dutch designer, Marie-Anne Oudejans.
Born in 2013, it’s one of its kind bar in Jaipur, serving Italian cuisines. The seating option includes an open-air canopied sit out as well as enclosed seating space. It’s located in the heart of the city which is a heritage Haveli turned into a hotel. The seats inside the enclosed space are low height replicating the chosen method of sitting in the days of royalty.
Narain Niwas is also known as Kanota Bagh among the locals. Why? During the days of royalty, before Indian independence, the Rajput feudal lords of Kanota owned a large portion of land which had many trees. The word Bagh in Hindi implies garden. A large part of the garden was sold off as residential plots but the Rajput family still owns a heritage Haveli which has been converted into a hotel – Narain Niwas Hotel.
Bar Palladio is a popular place. It is quite likely that you won’t find a seating space during the weekends in the tourist season – it is packed with people! If you ever find yourself in such a situation you can visit Shikaar Bagh. Shikaar Bagh is right next to Bar Palladio. Here is a picture of Shikaar Bagh.
The best season to enjoy outdoor seating in the Bar Palladio is between October- March when the weather is cool. Bar Palladio is a cool place to hang out with your date or close friends. It makes for a great romantic setting and in my opinion, is one of the best couple places in Jaipur. Forget cliche candlelight dinner as Bar Palladio makes for a great romantic retreat in Jaipur.
If you are visiting Jaipur, this should be on your list of places to experience! Surely worth every penny! I would rate this place 4.5/5

Ishita, I guess your search for the Italian connection has ended. Its a great place. I love its ambiance. Its expensive going by the city’s standards but surely affordable. If you wanna check precisely look up Zomato.
Recently they also opened a cafe by the name Palladio cafe. But it hasn’t become as popular. Maybe because of the pricy menu and ambiance. Not completely sure on that though.

Thank you Arv. This is useful. I saw and it isn’t expensive at all. I thought it would be probably thrice of it I have been to Jaipur several times especially thrice for the JLF. However, I still feel there is so much to see/do in that beautiful city.

Going by how the rates have shot up in the cafe and eateries, its one and half times of the average price you pay elsewhere. But then it’s the ambiance that you pay for.
I’m sure there’s lots that this city can offer you. So explore whenever you are in town, next.

Ishita, you may like to visit either Shikaar Bagh or Bar Palladio strictly for it’s extravagant ambience, indigenous decor, non intrusive yet most amazing music and par excellence services, yet the food is not even average.

The blue is gorgeous! Looks so regal. Have always wanted to visit this place and always miss it:( Shubham spoke about its Tiramisu. But I wonder if I would ever get the time to eat. I’d be only clicking the interiors! 😀

This place is stunningly beautiful with a grandeur rarely seen. I like the idea of the multi-cultural feel and the different impressions people get when looking at different features. I can imagine it is popular with local people as well as tourists.

It is popular among youth and tourists. Being an upmarket bar it never sees huge crowd though. Yes, the interior is stunningly beautiful, Millie. Do you have something like this in UK? 🙂

I visited this place on my recent visit to Jaipur. Mahn… what a great this is! And it is not as costly as the pub/clubs in Mumbai.
