Reflections 2016

The year 2016 is already over! It’s a good time to sit back and run through all the posts that made it to your blog. Since I derive most of my inspiration for Jaipurthrumylens through the pictures, I thought it’ll be a good idea to share my favorite images that made it here.

I uploaded close to 596 pictures in 2016 in comparison to 595 in 2015!

It was an incredible experience to watch this twilight scene. It involved getting up at 4.30 AM, driving 50 Km out-of-town and hiking up the hill, all in the dark on a cold winter morning.

I  really don’t know why I liked this picture even though it’s a makeshift table in a run-down building. Is it symmetry or some sort of order? I’ll love to hear your views.

I used iPhone 6 to capture all pictures in this post. I’m not deft at mobile photography, still learning! I have always held an opinion that mobile photography is inferior to pictures captured using a compact camera or DSLR but this is an exception.

I captured this picture on  Valentine’s Day in Pushkar, near Jaipur. Pushkar is famous world over for its famed Pushkar Cattle Fair.

I feel this picture captures the spirit of Holi – the festival of colors, very well.

Blue and yellow color in this picture complement each other. While the car is in a retro design, the World Trade Park building in the background represents a modern look. So there are elements that go well together, yet representing opposites.

I love this picture for two reasons. One, the darkness coexists with the light. Two, I found the formation of clouds, very interesting. What about you?

    1. I agree with symmetry! I feel only two most important elements in photography are composition and light! The former is what really differentiate between different pictures. Happy New Year to you too Alok! Mobile photography only compounds problem, how many mediums can we use? 😉

      2. Well said! It does afford us all photographic opportunities without camera, everywhere! Although I know you’re ardent Apple fan, you must check out galaxy s7 for its photographic capabilities. I’ve seen many iPhones users who were using it for many years make a switch. It breaks all boundaries in low light photography as far as smartphones are concerned. I wouldn’t vouch for other aspects though.

  3. I love the way you’ve captured each of these. The couple’s photo in particular is spectacular. It’s more about the hands that hold the camera than the instrument as such, and yours are definitely that of a photographer’s.
    I liked the postcards too. There’s life in that picture, in the lazy subtle way they are strewn over the table.
    I hope you have an even greater list from 2017!

    1. I think we think alike on both these pictures. It’s true that camera is merely a facilitator. But these facilitators also opens new horizons so in that respect its important too! Thank you for the good wishes. 🙂

  9. Arv, all of your pictures are stunning it’s hard to pick a favorite 🙂 but if I had to I really love all your skywatch photos. The light, darkness, clouds, blue sky, sunrise, sunsets it’s all amazing. I know I’ve said it before but the sunrise is always the best for so many reasons 🙂 Keep clicking away and posting away too 😉 Here and on Instagram 🙂

    1. Jennifer I’m in awe of sunrises. I feel it is in a way a spiritual experience. So potent and its always symbolic of a good day ahead! Would love to see similar pictures from Canada! 🙂

  10. Thanks for sharing your best pics arv! My personal favorite is the fourth one, at Pushkar Lake… it captures so many hues and nuances of life along with the scenery. Stay blessed and keep shooting!

    1. Teresa thank you for all the appreciation. I have same thoughts about this picture from festival of Holi. Although I’m still a photography purist who prefers camera over a mobile phone but sometimes you gotta capture what you have at your disposal! 🙂

  13. So many lovely photos over the last year, Arv. Looks like you’ve been out and about with the camera by your side. You must feel naked without it 😉 I too am still learning with phone photography, and that is because I really like to use manual mode and have more control over a scene that I am shooting – something which is too fiddly to do with a phone camera.

    I too like the table with the postcards. For one, it looks neat but if you look closely, some of the postcards are a bit askew. And that lends a sense of naturallness to it all – that when we travel or dream, no matter how planned we are things can get spontaneous.

    The Valentines lover photo is my favourite. It is always hard to come across those kinds of romantic shots with a beautiful background 😀

    1. Mabel, phone photography is a different art altogether. That’s because phone has got a different mechanics. Sometimes the captured image looks great on a phone screen but on a computer screen it looks ‘not so good ‘. That postcard picture is my favorite for reason mentioned by you plus the way colors are blending! The valentine day picture is actually a random click, I never thought it’ll be so good until I saw on a computer screen.

      1. I share the same view too. Sometimes I take a photo of a scene with my camera, and then I take the same scene with my phone – and looking on the phone, the scene looks better and I feel excited…until as you said, you put it on a computer screen.

        But what I do like on phones are photo editing apps and you can even save photos in high resolution 🙂

      2. True Mabel. The biggest advantage is that phone allows you so much convenience. You don’t need a camera and computer! Also, if you want to show pictures to someone, all you need is to pull out your phone! Irrespective of what our preferences are, the future of photography is entwined with smartphones! 🙂
