Cartist Automobile Art Camp, Jaipur At Hotel Jal Mahal

Cartist is an automobile art. It blends art with automobiles. Last year I visited the Cartist exhibition in Jaipur opposite World Trade Park. Read all about it Cartist Automobile Art Festival Jaipur/ Exhibition. It was a unique exhibition. Sharing a picture from Cartist 2016 exhibition.

Upon entering the lawn, a terracotta car grabbed my attention. We all have seen terracotta art, but using it in a car is something else!

A car made of a metal frame was placed right next to it. This car was no match with the creations of Cartist 2016!

Moving ahead, there were many young artists busy giving colors to their creations. They were participating for the first time and were from the Rajasthan School of Arts.

A green vintage Jaguar was parked along with a few more hand-painted cars.

As I moved to another camp, I found students dressed in school uniform painting Bajaj scooters, probably taking turns to paint!

Placed in the center were a few automobile sculptures created from a variety of stones. Another highlight of this year’s Cartist exhibition was the innovative use of automobile scrap giving them shapes of various kinds of insects.

There were two more camps where artists were busy creating art on Bajaj scooters. Few were school students, while others were freelance senior artists.

Despite so many artists working on scooters, each of their creations was unique. Here is a set of finished scooter art.

Apart from the art of automobiles, there were workshops on other arts, too. The day I visited, clay and pot making was in progress.

This year’s Cartist event just didn’t match up with the previous year’s venue. Cartist 2016 took it to another level, having a backdrop of World Trade Park building along with unique creations.

In Cartist 2017, some of the automobile creations were repeats of the last year. Like these Tata Nano cars as well as the “Red Head”.

None of the creations in this year’s exhibition stood out. On the other hand, seeing a variety of art on scooters was a cool thing. Bringing so many artists on a common platform at a single venue does require lots of effort. The organizers need to be recognized for their consistent efforts. With the onset of the summer season and temperatures exceeding 40 C, the dedication of artists working in this heat is commendable.

Anyone with an eye for art must visit Cartist in Jaipur. It’s surely one of its kind of art events in Jaipur.

Sometimes, I find it difficult to show you places around Jaipur because of tight schedules, but exploring in the city does fulfill some craving for wanderlust! This post appears as a part of weekly photo challenge wanderlust.

      1. Ever been? Oh, many a times! There are two art galleries on walking distance from my institute. And i enjoy the art display there! And you know what? How i entertain kids who visit on my place during social functions or small get to gathers? We do art and craft. They straight away head to my room in the search of paper and sketch pens and their favourite corner. And we produce our art works. And i’ve also taken part in many such camps and exhibitions as a child. Won some, lost some, but had fun all the time!

  2. What an exhibition. I always asked myself a question, How could people be so creative like that? Those paintings are amazing. And panting them in the middle of the heat, two thumbs up for those artists…

    1. True Mick. Only when you visit such places, you’ll get to see and experience local talent. It’s a great initiative. Since you are a writer and artist, do you also have local events? And do you participate too?

      1. As a painter I have participated in various exhibitions, but not yet as a writer. There are a number of regular events where writers read before an audience, but I’m not brave enough to do those!

        Personally, I never enjoy writers reading a book! My reason is simple, that’s something we all can do – read! What I really enjoy on the other hand is when the writer offers his experiences and perspective! That’s unique. …..but then these are my thoughts! 🙂

      3. That makes perfect sense to me, Arv. As you say, we can all read. But it should be of interest to get the writer’s ideas on why they wrote their book and what influenced them when they did.

    1. Art scene in Jaipur is quite active although its not famous for it. It’s famous for handicraft though. You are right classic jaguar was kept intact. It was just a talking point. Did you like anything in particular?

      1. no, we don’t have stuff like that here, the occasional hand painted vehicle but that’s it. I love art, I still paint on occasion, I painted 3 tiles yesterday (I’ll post them ) 🙂

  13. What an interesting camp that must have been . I still feel though that the original vintage cars are truly artistic ….. there is a regal elegance about them. The other works though commendable for the artistic skill and imagination somehow lack the intrinsic beauty of the vintage cars

  16. LOVE THIS!!!!! Good excuse to learn to ride a scooter so i can get my ride pimped in this awesome way. I love handprinted signs and truck art and folk art so really love the handiwork and skill that goes into these.

  18. Fabulous art! My god! This is just so creative. Kudos to the artists. This reminded me of the Kala Ghoda arts fest in Mumbai and the Heritage museum in Haryana. I have a thing for quirky art, this surely fits the bill!
