Jaipur Art Summit | Photo Essay

Jaipur Art Summit is one of the most popular art festivals in Jaipur. I wrote about the Jaipur Art Summit first in 2015 and then in 2016. Despite other art festivals taking place in Jaipur, what sets this apart is a variety of art one gets to see at Jaipur Art Summit. Most art events focus on either paintings or sculptures but not this one. There are art installations, paintings, talk shows, movie screenings, sculptures, live art demonstrations and an opportunity for artists to sell their creations. In comparison to Jaipur Art Summit 2016, this year’s art festival lacked usual buzz and vibrancy. The number of art installations was less vis-à-vis last year. Participation from foreign countries was lackadaisical too. Probably last year’s experience of foreign participants must have been bad considering Jaipur Art Summit took place a few days after the Demonetization of high-value Indian currency. The number of art exhibitions & art events in Jaipur has increased drastically but most of them are yet to gain the following.

  1. With the almost overwhelming variety of art forms at the Jaipur Art Festival a visitor would have no problem finding something to his liking.I would love to watch artists present their work through live demonstrations. As always, great post, Arv!

  5. Thanks for sharing Arv, it looks like there is plenty to admire. my favourite is No 11, I would have been seriously considering buying that one if I was there! Just as well I’m not 🙂

      1. My ancient history is textile design, many years ago at college, I painted for a while when the children were small, then work took over. Now I love photography but in 2018 I have planned to unearth the brushes and see whether I still have what it takes 😀

      2. I’m sure you never lose some skills. Moreover I feel it’s about love of aesthetics and some form of order. Even in photography you need an eye. It’s quite similar with other art forms. If you have an inclination towards art, the mode will keep changing. Would love to hear about your experiment, Vicky.

      I feel you love art which makes it tempting for you. Do attend if that’s possible. It takes place in December every year.

I understand your confusion but the description was honestly in perfect amount, too much of it leaves nothing to imagination and then I kind of get lost in factual details, robbing me of the joy I feel when I look at them.       2. Appreciate your clarification. I realized that no amount of description will explain art and interpretation by the artist. It is best when you interpret it yourself. So I have decided to change the narrative style. Happy to know you liked it.
