Rustic By OTH| One Of The Best Cafe In Jaipur Malviya Nagar?

On The House Bistro & Bakers or OTH in C-Scheme is one of the most popular cafes in Jaipur and commands a large following. In the current scenario with new eateries popping up every few days ensuring customer loyalty is tough. Consistent food quality is something that OTH has been able to deliver and I assume that’s the reason for the loyalty. A few patrons feel that the owner, Mr. Dushyant’s quest for perfection, places it ahead of the competition. Quite likely! All I recall is that Dushyant has been orchestrating one of the best food festivals in Jaipur- Gourmet Getaway. Rustic By OTH is a new venture of OTH Cafe in Jaipur.

For years, C-Scheme was the hub of food outlets in Jaipur. But lately, there’s immense action in Vaishali Nagar and Malviya Nagar as far as the new cafes and restaurants are concerned. Vaishali Nagar has gained a lead which explains the presence of so many food joints in this area catering to all categories and price points. Malviya Nagar has many upmarket food joints and also vibrancy which is missing in Vaishali Nagar. I presume it is because of the enormous presence of a young population. You will find a large number of food outlets on SL Marg and Lal Bahadur Nagar in Malviya Nagar. The first one to open here was Lazymojo followed by Koffee Culture, Skywaltz, Fort, and Nibs to name a few. It comes as no surprise that OTH has chosen to expand its second cafe in Malviya Nagar – Rustic By OTH.

I found the name “Rustic” a bit of a misnomer, after all, there is nothing rustic out here! The cafe has a contemporary interior dominated by blue and brown shades. It bears some similarities with OTH like a choice of indoor, outdoor, and enclosed seating space. Very few cafes in the city offer a choice of all three.

Rustic by OTH is well-lit and vibrant which makes a departure from OTH which has muted and solemn atmosphere. The seating options hint towards cafe-like casual and trendy chairs, unlike OTH which is a bistro.

The menu of Rustic by OTH is diverse and offers a bit of everything from Meditteranean, South Indian, Mughlai, Asian like Burmese, and North Indian cuisines among others. There’s a twist to the traditional preparations and are presented in a distinctive taste and style. Probably, a lot of arduous work & brainstorming has been done before curating this menu. Its menu reminds me of Meraaki Kitchen  which also serves regular dishes with a twist!

During my first visit, I ordered a few dishes. While some were amazing there were others where I felt a rework was needed not in terms of taste but serving style. The serving portions were reasonable for 1-2 persons. I feel it offers good value for its category with a moderately priced menu.

Despite having a set-up, the cafe was not serving the pizza during my visit. We chose to dine on the upper deck since the ground floor was a bit packed. In my opinion, I liked the seating space here more than at the upper deck because of the ambiance.

The cafe offers coffee from DEVI, a premium Indian coffee brand that sources coffee from plantations in South India.

DEVI Coffee claims that they are India’s leading gourmet and specialty coffee brand with a variety of variants. I did not have an opportunity to try it. There’s always next time!

Quick Update I had an opportunity to try coffee at Rustic By OTH on a subsequent visit. Some coffee variants listed on the menu were not available. The usual ones that we tried were good and worth a visit. The serving size of black coffee especially the Americano was excellent.

There’s nothing remarkable about this cafe but it gets its basics right – food! It leads me to conclude that it is a jack of all. I have always felt that it is great food and not the interiors that win the customer. I’m hopeful that this cafe will be able to live up to its pedigree. I will give it a thumbs up as it is a place where I would like to come back to.

Oh! Since its a write-up on food, Do I have any suggestions? Yes, I do! Try chocolate pave at Rustic by OTH if you are a chocolate lover. It is one of the most delicious chocolate desserts that I have ever tried; a dense chocolate mousse. It’s sinful!

  4. Your posts are so lucid, I felt I was sitting there in the restaurant. By the way, this new eatery serves Burmese dish! Is there a sizeable Burmese population in Jaipur? What is a Burmese speciality? Curious!

    1. They only serve a few dishes from different type of cuisine. There are no substantial Burmese in Jaipur. Though we have many Indian business families who migrated back to Jaipur during WW II despite living there for years. Also, there are just a few Burmese dishes which are popular here. I would not be surprised if the versions we eat differs from the one that are served in Burma because they have been modified to suit our taste palette! Khao Suey soup is one of the most popular Burmese food in India.

      2. Ah! I’m sure you must have been surprised with the variety of vegetarian food available here. Many people say that they never imagined that vegetarian food can be so delicious because back home it only meant boiled egg and rice! 🙂
