Have you ever wondered what makes the morning sacred and special? “In the stillness of morning when the world is waking up and your conscious mind hasn’t fully taken over, you may feel a connection to another world…….”
The above picture was captured near Charan Mandir on Nahargarh Hills in Jaipur.
The day starts by being soft in a sacred sort of way and gentle in the act of stepping into the awaiting day. The sky strengthens slowly with the yellow-orange light. It is the most opportune time to catch the sun rising up.
What are 5 things to do in the mornings to make it special?
- Ponder and reflect – Think about your day ahead and actions or you can even reflect back on your actions.
- Meditate – There is no better place than nature to meditate.
- Surya namaskar and Pranayam – It is the most propitious time of the day to do Suryanamaskar & Pranayam with plenty of fresh air and soft sunlight.
- Gratitude – Express gratitude for what you have gained.
- Enjoy silence and nature – what a better way to start your day than to enjoy nature and calm atmosphere. Read about Solitude & sunrise
How do you spend your morning time? Do you have special rituals like prayers or singing morning Ragas?

I enjoy mornings only when I am in Shillong. Not much in Bangalore. The days I go to office, its just bed to bathroom to cab 😀

I can understand what you mean, Neelanjana. “Life in loop” is what I would term it. How detached we are from nature in big cities. I’m sure you look forward to visiting Shillong!

I begin my day by reading in the Holy Scriptures. It provides strength and comfort from above. Then I can face the day in the confidence that God is with me. Have a great day, Arv!

Thanks for sharing your monring routine. I agree that reading holy scriptures provide strength. This is another way for many people here to beging the day. They usually head to the temple.

Morning rituals are, waking up and being thankful for a new day, maybe without pain in my body doing some yoga stretches , but mainly being thankful to have another great day ahead of me to be kind to others.

What a super way to start your day, Cornelia. I feel gratitude is often overlooked. This holds true even at my end. So the Yoga ritual started after your trip to India or you have been at it for years?

Thank Arv, for appreciating my comment, indeed gratitude is often overlooked, yet it is such a simple thing to do, I believe. I have been practicing Yoga for so many, many years, yet due to a knee issue, I am a bit limited in doing certain poses.

These are wonderful sunrise shots in Jaipur, Arv. Lovely pastel sky there. Must have been quite a view up there. I am a night person, so I like to spend my mornings sleeping! I do like your last point on enjoying the silence. Whenever I am up early in the morning, I rather not chit chat but be quiet, appreciating the tranquillity before the day begins. It gives me a better peace of mind 🙂

It is perfectly okay if your body clock has a different preference, Mabel. We all are different. I’m sure you enjoy peace that late night presents. Does your work demands late night or you are more creative during those times?

Late night does bring me peace, Arv. It depends. Sometimes my work takes me til late at night. I am more active and creative late at night 🙂

I have always been a morning person. There is something about the light in the morning that is different. When I walk to work the best time is just when the sun is coming up. Currently it is dark when I got up – right now pitch black!!

You head so early to your work? Or is it that sun shows up late? I agree that there’s something different about sunlight. It’s magical. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on morning and sunlight, Amelia.

Thoreau says “Morning is when I am awake and there is a dawn in me”. I love the morning quiet time. While I haven’t always done each activity every day, I usually now start with SN and various asanas, pranayam, metta practice and meditation, followed by (or sometimes proceeded by) coffee or tea, journaling, and/or studying. Having that quiet time gives a satisfying start to the rest of the day.

That’s definitely a great way to start your day. I am sure all that brings in some balance. I don’t think sunset is as powerful as sunrise even though they are quite similar.

Goodness morning rituals will be something I can work on while I convalesce. The shower first thing in the morning is a joy. It brings me back to life and starts the day like a clean sheet of fresh white paper to be written on.

Hi Arv, I won’t come to India after all, but at least your posts and pictures help me stay connected to the idea of one day visiting your country. And thanks a lot for this recent article, it teaches a peace of mind that is so necessary but sometimes forgotten…

I hope you do; I’m not sure why you mentioned it. I’m glad you enjoy these posts. Peace of mind is important because the “central system” need to be in the best condition. Isn’t it so?
Thanks for sharing your views, Robert.

Lovely images arv! Morning walk has always made my day special… the serenity of surroundings with the soft smiles of sun are so uplifting. Haven’t seen the sun for about a week in this part of the globe.

Thanks for sharing. Morning walk is certainly special. The fresh air is invigorating. I guess this must be a regular phenomenon during this part of the year – missing sun!

Beautiful shots! It’s really nice to watch the sunrise. I haven’t done that for a long time. My typical day starts with prayer, getting ready for work, and coffee:)

I guess not all of us are lucky enough to enjoy sunrises, everyday. Starting a day with prayer is certainly one of the best ways to kick-start your day. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here. Appreciate it. 🙂
