Where to Join Art & Craft Workshops in Jaipur | Studio Bero

Jaipur is well known for its rich art and craft traditions. Every year many people visit Jaipur specifically to participate in art and craft workshops. Over time, I have met many travelers who visited Jaipur just for these art and craft workshops. Out of all the traditional Jaipur art and craft traditions, the block printing workshops are among the most sought-after experiences. During my visit to Bagru, I shared a ride with a Lithuanian artist who works on large size fabrics. She was attending a seven-day Bagru block printing technique workshop to add a new dimension to her art. This is just one such example. Read more about Bagru Village Tour. Travelers often reach out to me asking for recommendations for art & craft workshops in Jaipur for beginners. Even though there are many options for art workshops, few are truly worth recommending. Recently, a new studio has opened offering art & craft workshops in Jaipur called Studio Bero.

Jaipur Block Carving Workshop

Block carving is another interesting and sought after art workshop in Jaipur. This involves carving the motif onto a block used in the block printing technique. The outline is drawn on a paper and the same is then used to create the pattern on the block. It requires getting used to the skill of chiseling. Wheel Pottery workshop in Jaipur

Until now, there were very few wheel pottery workshops in Jaipur. A few that I knew were in the villages close to Jaipur. Doing a wheel pottery workshop in Jaipur would require a lot of effort in commute. But with the studio now offering a wheel pottery-making experience in Jaipur, it is a good alternative. However, on another note, this craft requires quite some skill but with a good pottery master, it is easier. This is a good pottery workshop for beginners. A good pottery master provides guidance on techniques to master the pottery skills. Earthen pots have always been part of Jaipur culture. Till date many pottery items are being used on a daily basis. Some of these are Kulhad or earthen glasses for Chai and Lassi. Others like Diya are used during Diwali celebrations in Jaipur. With the revival of the concept of eco-friendly lifestyle, there is a renewed focus on pottery making classes in Jaipur.

  1. I am always so impressed by how much you know about Jaipur, Arv. From architecture to food to gemstones, and now arts and crafts. Each of these workshops you described could easily be something to do for the entire day. I am amazed to hear there is pottery over there, though they are quite few, and interesting to hear pottery items are used quite a bit over there.

I haven’t tried any of these kinds of arts and crafts. But I am in to crochet, not sure if you are familiar with that. I don’t do it too often these days but when I get to, I find it fun and also stimulating the mind. Crochet and crafts are quite popular here in Australia, but quite different to the ones you mentioned in Jaipur.

Hope you are doing well, Arv 🙂

    1. I know crochet is popular in many countries. Good to know you find ways to unwind, Mabel. There are many more crafts here in Jaipur. Keeping these traditions alive is vital as they are part of our culture. Hope some day you will be able to try some of these. I’m doing fine, Mabel. Hope you are too.

      1. I hope you get to go out and see many more craft activities around Jaipur, Arv. The crafts probably have stories behind them along with keeping in traditions. Sounds like so much to discover about where you are 🙂

      2. Yes, there are always stories when it comes to art that are practices for centuries. Have you explored any art and craft back in Malaysia?

      3. I haven’t explored much art and craft back in Malaysia. But textiles and pottery are some of the traditional crafts there that have been around for a long time, and still around today.

  2. I love arts and crafts! I have a friend who owns her own gallery and we died scarves one day. It was so fun to create. I had the best time. I can’t wait until I have more time to do more of these crafty things. I bet there’s a lot of art history in your country. 🙂
