I clicked this picture in Brahampuri area, on way to Gad Ganesh Temple.
There was an entire troop of monkeys sitting around a small temple chhatri located at the base of the hill on which Gad Ganesh temple is located . These were gray langur. This species has black face and greyish brown body color and long tail. Despite no similarity, they are also called Hanuman Langur.
Few years back, it was easier to spot this species of monkey in Jaipur city, but these days due to rapid urbanization, it is difficult to spot them. They typically live in large groups. Unlike, red face –rhesus macaque they are not as smart and not very aggressive. You will hardly find any loner amongst these langurs. In case, they invade a garden, don’t be surprised with leftovers – broken flower pots, uprooted plants/sapling,broken twigs…..and lot more!
You can still find gray langurs in surrounding areas of Jaipur.
