Photo Walk in Jaipur- Shapes

Many of you will be able to recall my previous posts on photo walks in Jaipur. I generally prefer a solo photo walk but at times I defy this pattern. I’d Rather join other photographers in Jaipur Photography Club. Last summer, I undertook a photo walk with a theme – shapes. It was all about shapes, lines, arches, and so on. The photo walk took place during an early morning in the month of May, famed for being the peak summer month. The venue for this photo walk was one of the metro stations in Jaipur. Twenty-five photographers participated in this Jaipur photography walking tour.

Jaipur Metro started a few years ago with just one route and usually doesn’t see huge traffic. It seemed like an abandoned metro station on a Sunday morning due to low passenger movement. In any case, Ram Nagar station is not a prominent station on the Jaipur metro route. However, there is something nice about this station. I’ll explain that a little later.

There wasn’t much to capture the theme at the metro station. It is quite small and basic. Sharing with you a few of my captures for this photography walk in Jaipur.

After capturing only lines, we found a handcart –Thela which allowed us to capture a few circles.

There are photographers who will go to any length to capture a perfect shot. I’m sharing a picture of one such photographer trying to capture this Thela from a different angle.

Finally, This is what makes Ram Nagar metro station stand out. There is a painting of Hawa Mahal on one of the walls. To impart a complete look the artists also added a few Rajasthani folk singers and dancers to this mural. This artwork was executed by the Cartist Jaipur.   1. A very nice selection of photos on a slightly different theme to usual, Arv.

    The metro is new since I visited Jaipur. I’m surprised if it isn’t particularly popular, as Jaipur is quite a large city and the distances involved would make a metro ideal, I’d have thought. I certainly look forward to riding it.

    1. Thanks, Mick. There wasn’t much to inspire in the metro station. I guess another location would have been better. I captured what I could. 🙂

      The trouble with metro is that it was influenced by a faulty route selection. The metro route doesn’t serve either of two major road which brings traffic from the outskirts – South and West. So the metro route is kind of diagonal sitting between the two. You see politicians are able to influence decisions for their benefit. It happens and I’m sure you are well aware of it. The public has to bear the fallout of “stupidity”.

      2. They’re opening up another route pretty soon. I’m sure you won’t need metro because it doesn’t serve the areas where you would like to visit. BTW, I forgot to add in my last comment, Jaipur is fairly big and stretches almost 20 km towards south and west. Do you have one in your city?

      4. You’re lucky to be living in a good surrounding. I don’t think you like much of the chaotic and congested cities. Mick with so much traffic, all we see is vehicles. At least in the main parts of Jaipur.

  10. Never heard of themed photo walks before, but I don’t think there’s many photographers in my small town in the first place. Love how it turned out though, there’s shapes just about anywhere.

  12. Arv, again a beautiful photo journey. An empty metro station must be a boon in disguise with the theme – shapes. Among all the beautiful pictures I would like to mention the staircase, ventilation and the painting of Hawamahal picture as my favourite. Great work, Arv!

  15. You have some great shots here – love the angles and perspectives .My daughter is currently out taking photos of lines and fragments to then draw for her art sketchbook. Yours have given her some added inspiration….may even have sketches of your work to send you!!
