“Me time” is any deliberate stretch of time you spend alone, doing something just for yourself with no obligations to anyone else. Living in a fast growing city like Jaipur has its own pros and cons. It enables all of us to enjoy the world-class facilities that come with a well-developed infrastructure. On the flip side, city life creates a lot of pressure and stress. Increasing pollution, traffic, work pressure, sales targets and what not? It’s easy to get bewildered by the constant pressure. With all of us connected round the clock with social media, emails and instant messaging our minds hardly get any time to rest.
What is “Me time”?
Me time” is your personal time. It is putting yourself first and choosing to do what you love. Me time is time spent intentionally alone, disconnected from work, family duties, and screens, doing something that restores rather than drains you. It’s different from idle downtime like scrolling your phone because it’s chosen and active like a walk, a hobby, quiet reflection. Psychologists generally link regular alone time to lower stress and better emotional regulation, though the ideal amount varies by person; some thrive on 20 minutes a day, others need a few uninterrupted hours weekly.
Many people struggle to make time for themselves due to commitments. Mental experts opine, lack of “me time” may lead to burnout. “Me time” can make you a better person, and improve your efficiency.
Why You need a time for yourself?
Here are 5 reasons why you should take time out for yourself
- It allows you to clear your mind
- It increases productivity and creativity
- It allows you to plan your life & gain a new perspective
- Avoids burn-outs
- Self-care is a way forward
What are the different ways in which you can use your “Me Time” in Jaipur?
There are many ways in which you can utilize time for yourself in Jaipur. I live in Jaipur, a city with a population of more than 4 million people. Let me show you how the people in Jaipur make time for themselves. I have managed to capture a few pictures that show 9 me time ideas from Jaipur.
1. Get away from Jaipur city to a quieter space
For some, being able to get away from the concrete structures to enjoy nature works best. While a lot of people prefer to take off for a few days in the Himalayas, it is not always possible for everyone to travel out. In such a case, take a break for a few hours or a day. 2. Find solace in divinity or Bhakti
Some people enjoy reading religious scriptures or chanting the Shloka/Mantras. It has been scientifically proven that chanting has a calming effect on the mind. This is a reason why many people decide to join Bhajans in Govind Dev Ji Mandir or other Aaarti ceremony in Jaipur temples. Here is a man at Khole Ke Hanuman Ji Temple

3. Take a stroll in parks in Jaipur
Greenery and parks are known to have a positive impact on our minds. There are people who fall back on parks whenever they are upset. A round of jogging or a brisk walk is all they need to rejuvenate. This is a reason why so many runners and joggers visit Central Park in Jaipur. If like rustic space, Smriti Van is another good option. If you prefer a more jungle like feel, Sylvan Forest can be a good choice.

4. Listen to the music
Listening to your favorite music makes you happy and will put you in a good mood. Good mood equates energy. a few favorite tracks can shift you from tense to relaxed faster than almost anything else on this list. You don’t need to go anywhere to do it. Some prefer classical ragas or devotional bhajans for a calming effect, others reach for something upbeat to shake off a bad day. Choose a place with a great view like Nahargarh Fort road, Charan Mandir, or Kanak Vrindavan in Jaipur for listening music.

5. Put on your dancing shoes
There are so many dance forms to choose for de-stressing. While some prefer classical dance forms, others pick western dance forms. Lately, many gyms in Jaipur have started offering aerobic and Zumba as an alternative to the usual workouts. Nightclubs also continue to be a very popular option for those who want to dance the night away. I have met many people who love to dance. Ina few clubs like The Soul one can see many dancing on the table and chair because the place is packed. These are the people who love dancing. Similarly, Jaipur also has classical dance form like Jaipur Gharana Kathak.

6. Meditatation
Find a quiet place and close your eyes to meditate. Doing some deep breathing helps you to clear your mind & detox. The eastern cultures lay a lot of stress on meditation to de-stress. Having realized its importance doctors also advocate meditation. There aren’t dedicated meditation centres in Jaipur even though Jaipur has Vipasyana centre near Galta. There are many places where one can meditate peacefully in Jaipur. I have found such places away from the main Jaipur city.

7. Watch the sunset or a sunrise in Jaipur

8. Treat the foodie in you
Food has continued to be a big draw among humans for centuries. While binge eating has always been associated with stress, there is no harm in treating yourself sometimes with something special. How about that Jalebi, Ghevar, or dark chocolate mousse that you often crave about?

9. Catch up with your friends
Friends are one of the fastest stress busters. Share and talk about anything, laughing over nothing, and just spending time together over silence with someone who gets it. A regular dose will ensure your mental well-being. Call up a friend you have not spoken for a very long time. Catch up over a coffee. Jaipur’s thriving cafe and coffee culture makes it easy. Malviya Nagar and C-Scheme in Jaipur have laid-back coffee spots that are made for exactly this kind of unhurried catch-up, no agenda required. However busy you are, you can always find time for yourself even if you have to start with just a few hours every week. Doing this can provide you with some breathing space in your life and help you unwind.
Frequentlt Asked Questions
How much time do I need every week?
There are no fixed rules. What ever works for you in terms of time availability and need.
Is taking me-time selfish?
No. Stepping back and recharging on a regular basis makes people more patient and present with others. It is kind of periodic mainteance.
What are best places for me time in Jaipur?
Central Park for a walk, Nahargarh Fort for sunset, Kanak Vrindavan or Chulgiri Jain Temple depending on your faith for spiritual conenction, hiking in aravali for time in nature.
What is difference between me-time and being anti-social?
Me time is a deliberate, occasional choice to recharge alone. Avoiding people altogether as a pattern is a something different and a pattern you wouldn’t want to get into. Me-time is a necssary “periodic-maintenatnce” for mental well-being.

Very well thought out post and blending of the profound ideas with the images make it picture perfect. Yes we are deep inside the container of daily grind and we get lost in the mechanics and mundane of life. City life is hectic and we get stressed up and it is so essential to detox, and you have so diligently picked up the various options and possibilities one can explore. Yes, it all depends on what is our liking and what goes well with each other’s interest. Music to meditation, and walking in the nature and locating that little time while working is a great idea to breaking away from the building stress and reconnecting with self. The pictures you have taken indeed lovely and you always take such effort in capturing such great shots across the length and breath of the beautiful city of Jaipur. Always a pleasure to read your post…

Lovely post, Arv. Me time is really important to recharge our positive energy. I normally love to take a walk, jump onto the bus, go with it to unknown destination, stop at the random place and have a good meal afterwards. Doing some exercise as swimming also works for me.
